Huang 璜 with Raised Curls
Eastern Zhou 周 dynasty, Warring States period, 4th century BCE
Jade
Chord 14.3 cm (5 5/8 in)
By comparison to the preceding huang 璜 (S2012.9.1122), the present example spans a shorter arc and its decor of raised curls is less finely executed. Two conical perforations are centered at opposite sides of the arc. The faintly translucent jade is dark olive green; traces of metal oxide adhere to the surface.
