Bottle with two vertical ring handles

Bottle of ovoid form with angular shoulder, cup-shaped mouth, splayed foot and recessed base. Two ring handles on shoulder.
Clay: light grey stoneware with black inclusions, coarse, oxidized to reddish brown.
Glaze: celadon, glossy, crazed, transparent; falls short some distance above foot, interior unglazed.
Decoration: incised bands on shoulder.

  • 1. (Candy Chan,  Research Assistant, May 19, 2003) Sisatchanalai celadon glazed eared bottle of  this type were found in the Ko Samui wreck site, belong to Surat Thani  province, the Gulf of Thailand (Green and Harper 1987, 7, Fig. 11a).


    Celadon eared bottle of this type is in the James and Elaine  Connell collection at the Asian Art Museum of San    Francisco (Asian Art Museum of San Francisco ed. 1993,  122, pl. 90).
